You don't have to leave your living room to experience views of mid-Missouri's skyline.
KOMU has bird's eye views of Columbia, Jefferson City and Fulton. We call these views the KOMU 8 Sky Cams. These cameras are mounted on the tops of water towers or tall buildings throughout our viewing area.
Allen wrote KOMU to say, "I understand the weathercam views of Jefferson City, Fulton and the like especially when there are no weather 'events' occuring. I do disagree with these views when weather is rolling into the area and your cameras are pointing east. I think most, if not all our weather approaches from the west. I think that flashes of lightning and billowing clouds are far more interesting and informative than the city views we are prone to seeing."
"So that's a great point and I'm glad that viewer reminded us that we really should show more approach from the west," said KOMU executive producer Holly Edgell. "Still, having said that, the cameras, the way that they operate, aren't always going to be able to pick up stuff that's coming from a far way away. The weather would have to be very close to us even if not upon us for us to really pick that up on our skycams."
