COLUMBIA- The Central Missouri Humane Society sits in first place right now, with a million dollars on the line.
Amanda Huhman and Libby Burks entered the Central Missouri Humane Society in the Zootoo Million Dollar Makeover competition in January. Now, with three days until the contest is over, the Humane Society is in first place, beating out nine other shelters.
The shelter has come a long way since January. Still, staff members are worried one of the other shelters will catch up.
"We still do have three days left of voting and so we really need everyone we can. A lot of the shelters that are also competing for the million have already doubled their points from the last time the views came out and we haven't quite done that," Huhman said.
Burks explained that even people from other states can vote in the contest. She has family voting for CMHS from California. The Central Missouri Humane Society employees say they really could use the win -- six months ago they almost had to close the shelter's doors. The facility takes in more than 7,500 animals a year.
Burks and Huhman say they're thankful to all of the voters and the community for their help. The winners of the competiton will be announced April 27th.
