JEFFERSON CITY (AP) - The Missouri House has narrowly passed a bill barring the Revenue Department from changing the way it issues driver's licenses. The measure is a response to some lawmakers' concerns about the federal government's Real ID Act of 2005. That law requires states to collect and verify certain citizenship information about people seeking driver's licenses and state identification cards. Republican House member Jim Guest of King City says the federal rules would infringe on privacy and create problems with identity theft. His bill would prohibit the Department of Revenue from implementing the federal requirements. The House approved the bill Thursday on a vote of 83-69. It now goes to the Senate.
