ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Post-Dispatch endorsed Sen. Barack Obama for the Democratic presidential nomination Saturday. The Post-Dispatch editorial board called Obama a leader for a new generation. "Barack Obama is aware of yesterday, but he is about today and tomorrow and next year. In a strong field of Democratic presidential contenders, he offers the best hope of transforming the debate and moving on to what America can be in the 21st century," the board wrote. The editorial board also recognized Obama's work to involve Americans in government and politics more. "Already he has energized thousands of voters who had written off politics or never bothered to get involved.  It's exciting to think of what that might mean," the board wrote. Obama volunteers will continue to knock on doors and make phone calls in support of the senator's presidential campaign until the primary election Feb. 5.
