FULTON - Workers installed a new security system at the Callaway County Courthouse on Tuesday. However, this new system is not without it's tradeoffs.
Marilyn Bartley works in the County Commissioner's office, inside the Callaway County Courthouse. She began work 7 months before 9/11.
"We needed to increase security for some time," said Bartley.
The changes include adding security cameras, panic buttons and a bullet resistant shield for judges. Officials have discussed these changes for years.
"Several years ago we formed a security committee, almost three years ago we did a study with the U.S. Marshall service. They conducted a study here at the courthouse and some of the findings, we felt like we needed to address,"said Presiding Commissioner Lee Fritz.
The biggest difference for the public is it no longer will have access to the south side entrances. Everyone must go to the main entrance in the front of the courthouse.
"Everything that they're doing is well worth the inconvenience of only walking in one door. Whether it be somebody's life that's saved by locking a door. I think the inconvenience is well worth it," said Bartley.
Security upgrades will be done this week.
