COLUMBIA - It was a disappointing season for the Tiger Men's Basketball team. The team finished with a 16-16 record. However, it did have some magical moments that made Tiger fans stand up and cheer. KOMU's Eric Blumberg has the Tigers top ten plays of the year.
Play number 10: Walk on Nick Berardini against both Western Illinois and Mcneese State comes in cold for the final seconds of the game and scores a three in each game, which sends fans into a frenzy.
"Nick's actually a really good shooter. I think he's 90 percent in the month of December. He doesn't miss very many, but if Nick gets one he's going to knock it in," said teammate Marshall Brown.
Play number 9: Texas native Marshall Brown goes back to his home state and throws down a thunderous dunk against Baylor.
MU Men's Basketball player Jason Horton, said the dunk silenced the crowd, "They was yelling and screaming and saying all kinds of stuff and then when he made that dunk everybody got quiet. It's almost like they was about to start cheering for us."
Play number 8: Matt Lawrence at Mississippi State put on a 3-point performance. He nailed 6 shots behind the arc and scored 28 points in the game.
Play number 7: Leo Lyons acrobatic baseline up and under left Oklahoma State defenders in the dust.
Marshall Brown remembered the distinctive lay-in, "I was right there next to him and I thought he was going to pass it to me and then he did a nice little up and under lay-up so that was a great play, too."
Play number 6: The Tigers defense against Texas including J.T. Tiller swatting away A.J. Abrams shots, and Demarre Carroll taking a charge.
"I used my triple jump skills cause I jumped off the wrong foot. I knew that they needed that shot so i knew he was going to take it," J.T. Tiller.
Play number 5: Jason Horton's assist to Leo Lyons for a fancy dunk.
Horton said he didn't think Lyons was going to catch his pass, "He pointed up so I threw it at the front of the rim. I didn't think he was going to catch it backwards. I thought he was just going to catch it and put it in, but he caught it and turned and dunked it. It was an exciting play."
Play number 4: Viatous Volkus' dunk and foul against one of the biggest boys in the Big 12, Aleks Maric from Kansas.
"For him to go to the basket and finish on Maric of all people, one of the biggest guys in our league was a great play," said teammate Marshall Brown.
Play number 3: In a tight game against Purdue the Tigers battled back from a big deficit and Keon Lawrence capped the comeback with the 3-point shot.
Play number 2: Keon Lawrence goes over Maryland's Bambale Osby with a baseline jam.
"It was stupid. I can't even explain it. We say everybody's dunking on Osby. Keon's what 6-1 a buck 70, a buck 80 against Osby who is like a gorilla," said teammate J.T. Tiller.
Play number 1: On a great play with a lot of meaning against Kansas State, J.T. Tiller gets the lay up and the foul, and his reaction was priceless.
"He played out of his mind that game and that was one of the plays that got the crowd into it and it was pretty much over after that," said teammate Marshall Brown.
Tiller remembers his reaction, "My adrenaline was pumping and when the lay-up went down I thought they called a charge. You see my facial expression I thought he called a charge. When they said it was an and one I was ecstatic."
Next year the Tigers will have 7 new players adding to the top ten plays of the year.
