COLUMBIA - Some are trying to be eco-friendly these days in order to save a little money.
Columbia is among them. Construction workers repaired a highway rail-road crossing between Paris road and Brown Station road in Columbia.
The workers used recycled panels from an old crossing that were deemed too good to throw away.
City officials say they try to save money wherever they can, and by recylcing they are saving a lot.
"If you would have bought new crossing materials it would have cost about $250 dollars per track foot to precure those materials. Today, we are repairing oh roughly 20 track feet so maybe $5,000 dollars worth of materials that we are using today," said Columbia Water and Light spokeswoman Christian Johanningmeier.
The panels are only temporary, construction on the new railroad bridge that will go over highway 63 is set to finish by October 2010.
