COLUMBIA - Grabbing your rain gear when you left for your daily commute Monday morning might have been a good idea.

Water, water... Everywhere. Drivers splashed through puddles Monday as rain poured down, causing problems on the roads.

"We saw a few car in the ditches," said Melissa Baker, weather trooper.

Water over roads caused problems for drivers, while flooding of parking lots caused a different type of headaches for others. Though the rain died down later, some people got back to their car and had to walk through at least two inches of water.

MoDOT offers some safety tips to help keep your commute a dry one. Keep at least one car length distance between you and the car in front. Keep a slow speed. And remember many accidents happen due to hydroplaning and excess water on the roads.

But according to some, this weather is perfectly fine.

"Just play in the puddles if you have a chance and just enjoy mother nature and all she has to offer," said Paul Byrne, weather trooper.

One bike rider took a unique approach to getting around.
