JEFFERSON CITY - High school students from across the state met in Jefferson City for the 'We The People' state competition.

The students competed at the Truman Hotel and were challenged with questions about the Constitution and the government.

Legal and political leaders from around the state congratulated the students on their hard work. U.S. Representative Kenny Hulshof gave the keynote address Monday morning, commending them for working to understand the government.

"You are focused on our government. And there's so much misunderstanding, I think, especially during a political election year. There's a lot of misunderstanding about our government," Hulshof said.

Hulshof would not answer questions regarding whether he would run for governor, making a quick exit after his speech.
