JEFFERSON CITY - Gov. Matt Blunt has declared a state of emergency for Missouri following severe ice storms.

Emergency groups, including the Missouri National Guard have been activated to assist communities in need. There is no determined end for the emergency state.

Warming centers are available to the public in mid-Missouri. In Fulton, the Health Department at 4950 County Road 304 is opening its doors. Officials suggest visitors bring their own pillows and blankets since the department will not provide them. In Rhineland, St. Joseph's Church of the Risen Savior is also open as a warming center to those in need.

In Columbia, the Public Works Department crews moved into residential areas and worked all night Sunday . Major roads received priority as conditions worsened. The Public Works Department asked that citizens keep snow on the right side of their driveway (while facing the street) to help snow plows from pushing snow back onto driveways. For more information, the city's snow removal map is available online at www.gocolumbiamo.com.

The state set up a toll-free hotline to assist Missourians in finding a warm place to stay while the ice storm continues: 888-377-2100 or 211. The lines are staffed between 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. seven days a week.
