September 15 to October 15 is Hispanic Heritage month across the United States.
KOMU 8 News is airing a special series on Thursdays at 10 called "Roots Raíces" for Hispanic Hertage month. As an added feature, four KOMU 8 reporters talked about their own Hispanic heritage. A.J. Bayatpour, age 22, was born in Chicago. He is a 2008 graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism. Currently, Bayatpour reports and works as a live truck operator at KOMU 8. He hopes to work as a sports reporter and anchor.
Geraldine Cols Azocar, age 23, is a 2007 graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism. She is now working as a producer and reporter at KOMU 8, while pursuing her master's degree in international relations at Webster University. Upon completion of her graduate degree, Cols hopes to work as an international news correspondent.
Guadalupe Martinez Sosa, age 22, is a senior in the Radio-TV sequence at the University of Missouri School of Journalism. She plans to graduate in May 2009. After that, Martinez hopes to work as a television news reporter. In addition to studying and working as a reporter at KOMU 8, Martinez works as a DJ for a Sedalia-based radio show called "Sabados Latinos," which airs Saturdays on KISI 1050 AM.
Brandon Lewis, age 20, was born in New York City. He is a senior in the Radio-TV sequence at the University of Missouri School of Journalism. Currently, Lewis works as a reporter and live truck operator at KOMU 8. He plans to graduate in May 2009 and hopes to someday work as a television news reporter.
