MARIES COUNTY-The rain showers this week are an inconvenience, a blessing and a curse depending on who you are...and where you live.

But in Maries County, it's just another day of rain.

There's as much as two inches an hour. It's what makes the soil in Maries County so great for farming. But for the residents of this area, it is possible to have too much of a good thing.

"Unfortunately, the people who do live and farm around these rivers are pretty used to it," Mike Belt of MoDOT said.

The Fitzpatricks have lived in Maries County for 45 years, so all this water doesn't surprise them.

"As far as us...we don't do much of anything. We play cards," the Fitzpatricks said.

The couple is retired, but worries about their neighbors with farmland and cattle. Officials say the heavy rain is not stopping any time soon.

"We expect this river to raise for several hours, and possibly even a day or so," said Belt.

This section of Route T in Argyle is where the Maries River meets the Little Maries River, and MoDOT officials worry a flood is well on it's way.

"On a day like this we're making sure that we are prepared to close these roads," said Belt.

MoDOT officials say that river flooding is very different than the flash flooding occurring in Boone County and other more urban areas. River flooding means the water will rise slower, but will remain on roadways much longer.
