MEXICO - Food on wheels, sounds like a familiar concept right?

The Central Missouri Food Bank created a mobile pantry in 2004. The mobile serves 9 locations and more than 34 hundred people.

"Without this, there'd be a lot of kids going to bed crying," said Mitchell Cowan, Mobile Pantry Driver.

Cowan and other volunteers deliver the priceless gift of food.

"We want to see people smile," Cowan said. "They come in and get out of here. And they know they're gonna go home with some food that will last more than a day or two."

Many see it as an essential aspect to fighting hunger.

"We always use it as a stepping stone towards developing a relationship with a community to have a permanent pantry," said Executive Director Peggy Kirkpatrick.

People hope the mobile food pantry will bring more than just food to those in need.

"Not only are you helping to feed those people, but you are also helping the community see that they have hungry people right there in their neighborhood," Kirkpatrick said.

After a hard day unloading their trucks and loading up cars with food, everyone can go home satisfied.

"Without a doubt it feels good to see people leave here with food they'd be without," Cowan said.
