JEFFERSON CITY - State lawmakers had until Friday to approve next year's budget but got it done ahead of schedule.

The house had only three bills left to approve this afternoon. After about three hours representatives passed the final bill approving the $22.5 billion dollar budget.

Included in the budget is $12.5 million dollars for ethanol production incentives, $5.3 billion for education, including $3 billion for public school funding. That's a $120 million dollar increase from last year.

The budget does not include money for Governor Blunt's e-mail archive system. It was health care that caused the most heated debate.

"If we don't pass this bill we will see a one hundred percent cut to Medicaid," said Representative Ryan Silvey. "If we don't pass this bill not one dollar from this state gets appropriated to Medicaid Mr. Speaker."

The office of administration says that state revenue that paying for the budget is 1.2 percent less than originally predicted by lawmakers. Rep. Ed Robb, vice chairman of the budget committee, says those reports are false. The money will become available once flood victims, who were given extensions, file their taxes.
