JEFFERSON CITY - Huckabee spoke about issues including immigration and tax reform during his visit to Jefferson City Tuesday.
"Many people in Washington have made major decisions, and they have no idea how it's impacting the states," Huckabee said.
About 300 Huckabee supporters were at the event on Tuesday. Some were supporters who have worked towards Huckabee's election at the grassroots level for months.
"We're doing a lot of sign waving, calling people, passing out a lot of information, talking to friends we meet," Huckabee supporter Hannah Cass said.
Huckabee stood firm on the immigration issue.
"Many people are frustrated that it is more difficult to get on an airplane in their own home town than it is for an illegal to cross our international borders," Huckabee said.
Another issue he talked about was the income tax reform.
"One of the things I would like to trade is the nonsense of our tax system to the common sense of what's often called a fair tax," he said.
Huckabee is currently third in the republican presidential race behind Mitt Romney and John McCain. He received the endorsement of 31 state legislators while on his visit to the capital city.
