STURGEON - Sturgeon Police Chief Patricia Bible was the only officer in Sturgeon until the city added a second officer in 2006.
"I was on call pretty much 24, seven, I would call Boone County once a week after probably the first month and I started taking one day a week off," Bible said. "It definitely helps when you have someone to share the call volume with. Since the first of the year, Officer Maddox and myself has answered approximately 465 calls for service."
Some residents have noticed the difference.
"Tt's more regular. It used to be just mostly at night, but now you see it at daytime and throughout the evening," Sturgeon resident, Greg Kelly says.
Others have not, but still feel safer.
"I didn't know until you all told me this afternoon that's what's a fact, but if it is, then why yes, i should be better protected, yes," resident Lucille Blakemore said.
Doubling the Sturgeon police force was made possible due to a half-cent sales increase However, they say it's still in need of more officers.
