COLUMBIA - The MU chancellor's "Compete Missouri" financial plan is under fire.

Faculty members brought their concerns to the chancellor Thursday afternoon in a University-wide meeting.

Soon-to-be grads are celebrating an anticipated end to the school year, while some MU teachers and faculty say there's not much to celebrate when it comes to chancellor Brady Deaton's financial plans for the University. Faculty members spent the afternoon with the chancellor. The meeting was the brainchild of 67 MU faculty members.

They put the gears in motion with a petition they're calling "the current crisis and future of the University of Missouri." This petition spells out concerns over the consequences of the "Compete Missouri."

At the heart of "Compete Missouri" is a freeze on faculty hiring. Many open positions will stay that way. And that means fewer people doing more work. This meeting comes as the school year wraps up. That's no coincidence, faculty members say many reforms are started over the summer.
