JEFFERSON CITY - You may think being bald is only for old men.

A boy from Jefferson City shaved off his hair as an act of love and encouragement.

Dylan Pirner needed a haircut, but it wasn't an ordinary haircut.

"Dylan fell on the playground about three weeks ago, and he started bruising very bad from that and that is what takes his mom to bring him to the doctor," teacher Betsy Lauf said.

The diagnosis was leukemia.

"I was devastated, I mean, this is my baby," mother Angie Pirner said.

Pirner is a single mom and student with two kids, which makes Dylan's sickness even harder.

"Dylan may be the only one who has cancer, but he is not the only one to shave his hair," said

Teachers and classmates came together to have a hair shaving party for him. Three friends and the principal joined in a show of bald support.

"It is so amazing to me the kids are working through together, and they are all willing to do this for him and be here for him today," said

Classmates are doing all they can to make Dylan not feel so insecure and lonely.

"Well, the class is making him cards, and of course, when we pray, we pray everyday remember to say his name," said

Being only seven years old, Dylan has a lot of dreams for his life.

"He has always wanted to be a doctor, a band, he 's got five career plans,"

The disease will keep him from going to school while he's undergoing treatment for three years.

"I wish he can come back to school," said

But as Dylan starts his days away, his friends will show their true signs of support.

Dylan's mom is confident Dylan will recover because the doctor told her there is an 80 percent recovery rate.
