Some teams use fans or coaches pep talks to fire them up, but there is a college football team in mid- Missouri doing something different.  It's a dance called the Haka that started almost 200 years ago and now, it's made its way to Missouri Valley.

"The south pacific like to do it, sort of like a war chant," said defensive back Moamoa PalePale.

"To be honest with you, it's like we're going to war, so you actually do it going into war, knowing you'll be going into battle with your brothers," Colin Smith said.

Moamoa PalePale, or just Pale as his buddies call him, is from Everett, Washington and taught the dance to his teammates as a pre-game ritual.

"I think the first game we did it was against Linnenwood and that was a big game for us, and even though we came up short, you could obviously tell that it took the emotion to another level. So we just kept doing it, kept doing it and stuck with it," said tight end Scott Humphrey.

Coach Paul Troth states, "I think it's been a very good thing for us. The players get excited with it so I think it's been very positive for us."

Pale also led his high school team in the Haka, a dance that's enshrined in his heritage.

"Well, both my parents are originally from Samoa and Tonga. When I was raised, English was a second language for me. So we were very into our culture," states Moamoa PalePale.

This ritual has led the team into a South-Pacific craze.

"They like it, actually. I mean, hopefully, if you're able to see us pre-game before a game, it gets us pretty pumped up and a lot of guys are pretty serious about it," said Moamoa PalePale.
