COLUMBIA - Three different car accidents in Columbia Friday night backed up traffic and sent two people to the hospital.
An accident on Highway 63 backed up traffic around rush hour. A truck lost control when its trailer began to sway and rolled down into the ditch that splits the highway. The driver suffered from minor injuries and was transported to Boone Hospital. The accident backed up traffic going north and south and caused further fender benders to vehicles that didn't brake fast enough.
Another accident forced Columbia Police to shut down the Business Loop - Rangeline Road intersection just after 8 p.m. Both motorists involved say a minivan driving west on Business Loop crashed into a truck headed south on Rangeline. Neither driver was seriously hurt. The driver of the truck went to the hospital as a precaution.
At about 7 p.m. there was a four car pile up near the intersection of Nifong and Providence. Police say a jeep driving in the left lane hit the car in front causing a chain reaction. Officials say there were no injuries. One lane was shut down, but traffic was pretty steady.
