JEFFERSON CITY - Jefferson City is a very historic community, but sometimes the past gets in the way of the future.
There's a demolition project we've covered several times concerning what to do with the older homes along West McCarty street just a few blocks from the Capitol.
A demolition crew is in the process of knocking down three houses, with more to follow. The city eventually hopes to build a conference center on the property. Over the years, critics have favored remodeling the properties and preserving history.
Keeping with the theme of knocking things down, demolition crew blew up AKA imploded part of the Old Missouri River bridge at Hermann yesterday. The video comes from the Northside, what came down was the part of the bridge over the ground-- not the water. Part two of the demolition is scheduled for April 8th.
Finally, speaking of rivers, a follow-up on a record flood for the Meremec River near St. Louis. A few years ago we did a follow-up on this little town called Times Beach.
Times Beach made national news 25-years ago when it was discovered dixoin had been sprayed on the town's gravel roads. Shortly later, the Meremec flooded and washed everything away. Now, the National Weather Service says the Meremec will be as high or a little higher this Saturday than it was back in 1982. What used to be Times Beach is now Route 66 State Park. But not before the deadly dioxin was destroyed on-site.
KOMU checked with DNR, but the state agency is not worried about any 25-year old contaminants coming out of the soil and ruining the park.
