COLUMBIA - A leader of Islamic-American relations told a Columbia audience tonight Muslim voters would be a significant force in America this year.

Parvez Ahmed says Muslim voters are young and highly educated and he said Muslims will vote to put women in power.

A survey by his group shows 93 percent of Muslims think women should have an equal role with men in running business, industry and government. Ahmed says public welfare and the relationship between America and the Muslim world are important issues to Islamic voters. But the most important one is the education policy.

"Should not surprise us, for those Muslim background. The first revaluation, the first command from god, in the god, is not to pray, is not to worship, but read, to seek knowledge, " Muslim policy leader Parvez Ahmed.

Ahmed says civil rights is another key factor. He says that feeling stems from injustices toward Muslims after 9/11 and also his faith's view of peace and justice. Ahmed says Muslim voters makes up almost five percent of national electorate.
