AUXVASSE - One mid-Missouri woman is hoping to reach hundreds of mothers with her new book.
It's pretty common for parents to send their children on a time out when they've done something wrong or need an attitude adjustment. Now one woman is hoping more moms will put themselves in time out.
Four kids make the Crawford's home a full house. This is why mom decided it was time to take a time out for herself.
"The concept here is that we need a time out too, time to go to our rooms and get a better outlook on things, because we're not always the best mommies as my kids will tell you," said author Judy Crawford.
In order to spread her mother-approved tactic for time out, she wrote it down.
"The book is the time out," she said. "Its about my kids and there's a lot of stories in there.
Others think it is a true retreat from the daily grind.
"It has real stories and real humor," said Laura Bowles. "So the one thing I would say is it's real.
"We're not alone in this," Crawford said. "We're not the only ones with laundry piled high and kids belching in the back seat. The stories just kind of bond us."
So between the babies and teenagers, Crawford finds her sanctuary in her stories and her faith.
"Because it's about my kids, so there's a lot of stories about my kids in there," she said. "It's also a devotional book. It directs you to different biblical teachings."
A book for all mothers, no matter age or religion, just in time for Mother's Day.
"Anybody can benefit from this book," said Crawford. "I've been surprised that it's not just young moms, but all moms I've gotten positive comments from that have read the book"
So that they can keep taking care of the people who matter most.
"Yes, I'm going to take a really big time out," Bowles said.
Crawford is holding a book signing at Lemstone Christian Store in Columbia on Saturday.
