COLUMBIA- Dr. Fatemeh Keshavarz, a Washington University professor of Persian literature, spoke to nearly 80 students and residents Tuesaday night about American perceptions of Iran.

Keshavarz stated Iran is not the nation many Americans seem to think it is and described her hope that the United States and Iran can find common ground and mutual understanding. She mentioned Iran's literary achievements, the Iraq war, and US-Iranian relations.

"In general, the world is getting smaller by the day, so being citizens of the world means we should really know about other parts of the world," Keshavarz said.

The Columbia Peace Coalition invited Keshavarz to MU. She also took questions from the audience and autographed her new book.
