JEFFERSON CITY - Gov. Matt Blunt met with police officers Thursday to share ideas about his goal to stop illegal immigration.
Law enforcement officials met in Jefferson City today to address the growing concerns of police officers.
Blunt encouraged officers to further their training on immigration laws and enforcement. Blunt says Missourians welcome legal immigrants, but will not tolerate illegal immigrants who blatantly disobey laws.
Police officers say that language barriers present a challenge in dealing with immigration issues, but that today's session serves as a starting point.
Specialists from the immigration and customs enforcement are trying to equip officers with tools to limit illegal immigration.
"We're hoping to be able to provide local law enforcement officers with guidance," says Ken Carlson, assistant field office director.
