COLUMBIA - Cafe Berlin moved to its new location downtown just last month, but its owners have a new store idea they're cooking up, a grocery store co-op.
The grocery co-op will be next to Cafe Berlin and will sell organic, locally grown food.
Owners said shoppers interested in being a co-op member will pay a fee and profits from the grocery will go back to co-op members.
"I just feel like it would be a great symbiotic relationship for a market and a restaurant," owner Eli Gay said. "The restaurant can sell a lot of its products through that retail outlet and vice versa."
Owners said Cafe Berlin is the priority now, but they plan to have the grocery co-op up and running by February 2010.
