COLUMBIA - The Tigers are getting an early look at the next teriffic tight end at Mizzou.

They're already starting to get a reputation for producing prominent tight ends. Martin Rucker is in the pros. It is safe to say Chase Coffman is soon to follow after this season. To earn the nickname "Tight End U, though, Mizzou needs another tight end to continue the tradition.

That's where Andrew Jones comes in. The name sounds anonymous enough right now, but freshman Andrew Jones is becoming a household name with Chase Coffman on the sidelines.

"I'm excited that I'm going to get a few extra reps, but he's our team leader really. I look at him as a role model and a team leader," Jones said.

The tiger pup can learn from the senior any time he wants. They're together day and night.

"We're rooming together in the dorms right now for camp. I just get to help him out. Teach him the plays. Just encourage him to keep playing well," Coffman said. "He's got a great chance to play this year," he added.

"He'll tell me anything I want to know. I'll just ask him a question and it seems like he knows the answer," Jones said. "Whether it's about football or something about the transition from high school to college."

"There are a couple of times he's told me stuff and then he asked me that right back. I just told you that," Coffman said.

While Jones tries to catch on, Coffman offers some fatherly advice.

"They assigned us big brothers on the team and he took it an extra level," Jones said. "He wants to be my dad and me to be his son. He called me son and wanted me to call him dad. So I don't know where that is coming from."

Said Coffman: "I was just messing around with him that they assigned me as his dad and not his big brother. Just a little hazing. Not too bad."

Coffman earned Freshman All-American honors in his first season. Jones is trying to follow but knows he has obstacles to hurdle.

Chase Daniel, last season's Heisman Trophy finalist, sees some promise in the freshman tight end.

"Jones is coming along well. He's learning the offense and it's settling down in his mind and once the game settles down in your mind you can do a lot better," said Daniel.
