BOONVILLE- A mid-Missouri town rich in history is transforming into a movie setstarting this week.
Boonville is setting up for a movie called "Saving Grace" about a little girl's trip to the town back in the summer of 1951
City administrators helped to get things ready.
"A lot of it has been coordinating between various departments of the city, as well as local merchants and local people." said Sarah Gallagher, the city's Economic Development Director.
The movie is set in the summer of 1951 when a great flood hit the town. Many downtown buildings will be used, and Kemper military academy will be used as an asylum. To keep the movie authentic, everything is going to look like it did in 1951.
"When they do a certain shot on a certain street that there is no seventies, eighties, and nineties model vehicles parked on the road, so we'll probably have to ask some people to move their vehicles" said Chief Jim Gholson of the Boonville Police Department.
This isn't the first time Boonville has been the set of a movie. Kemper military academy is also not new when it comes to movie sets, The academy was used in one of the Chuckie movies.
"It's an exciting thing. It's a great opportunity to have new folks come to town and see Boonville for what it is." Gallagher says.
Gallagher hopes the movie will bring in visitors. It seems to already be working at the local diner.
"Everybody that comes in talks about it." said Patricia Bias, a regular at the local Riverside Diner.
There's no scheduled release date for "Saving Grace" yet. If you want to get involved, any casting or work opportunities will be posted on the Missouri film commission website.
