JEFFERSON CITY - State transportation officials have approved an additional 32 road paving projects to be funded with federal economic stimulus money. The projects approved Wednesday by the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission will cost a total of $39 million. The largest projects include repaving Interstate 29 in Platte County and parts of Interstate 70 in Lafayette and Cooper counties. But the project list also includes numerous lettered routes in rural Missouri. Last month, Missouri became the first state to break ground on bridge and highway projects under the stimulus package -- doing so just minutes after it was signed by President Obama. The state now has approved nearly $91 million in contracts for the federal stimulus projects.
