JEFFERSON CITY (AP) - The Missouri State Highway Patrol says at least 10 people died in traffic crashes around the state during the Labor Day weekend, four of them in the St. Louis area. That compares with 18 fatalities over Labor Day weekend 2006. The count includes fatalities that took place from 6 p.m. Friday to 11:59 p.m. Monday. Troopers investigated 320 traffic crashes, which resulted in eight deaths and 156 injuries. Police in St. Louis and Columbia each investigated one fatality. Troopers made 186 arrests for drunken driving, up from the 172 arrests last year. Of the eight traffic deaths covered by the Highway Patrol, three were in the St. Louis area. Two each were in the Poplar Bluff and Jefferson City areas, and one was in the St. Joseph region.
