COLUMBIA- Some residents say that a proposed MKT connector brings up too many problems.

Local residents like Ed Pickett believe the trail connector is unnecessary, expensive and unsafe.

The proposed connector would run from the south end of Garth Avenue through a wooded area and connect with the existing trail. Pickett and others say that path is too steep and too hard to engineer

"It seems to me, I wouldn't trust it," Pickett said.

The GetAbout Columbia group is looking at the plan for possible changes.

"Working with the neighborhood association and the council in the area we said give us some ideas what do you think." Ted Curtis, GetAbout Columbia Manager said.

One possible new path for the connector has its own problems.

It would run through the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity property. Since it is private property, the project might take longer and cost more than planned.

GetAbout Columbia officials say the trail expansion won't cost taxpayers.

Supporters say all this trouble will be worth it in the end. They say the connector, wherever it is, will join neighborhoods and make the trail safer and more convenient.
