COLUMBIA - One new Columbia school board member and a returning member took their oath as two left their seats Monday night.

Don Ludwig and Chuck Headley said goodbye to the Columbia Board of Education.

Jan Mees, a new member, and Karla Despain, the current board president also took their oaths Monday.

In addition to the induction of the new members, the board of education got some entertainment.

McCain Thompson, a Rock Bridge high school senior, prepared a short film to begin a discussion about teachers' salaries.

Afterward, the board considered bids to repair the roof on Parkade elementary school.

They also discussed bids to improve air conditioning and heating in the district's building.

Don Ludwig, says he hopes the new bond issue will help these and other projects.

"The bond issue passed last week which is equal to one-third of the money needed to get this stuff done," Ludwig said. "We need to build three elementary schools, a high school, and upgrade a lot of our older schools."

The Columbia Board of Education will be setting more definite plans for this project in the future now that it has the voters' support.
