COLUMBIA - Senator Chuck Graham plead guilty to driving while intoxicated.

Graham entered his plea this morning in a Callaway County courtroom.

Graham paid the maximum fine of $500 plus $122 in court costs.

Graham currently has driving privilege and a decision on his future driving privileges will be made at a future hearing.

Graham refused an on camera interview. But he did release a statement, saying:

He said "I once again apologize to my friends, supporters, constituents and the other people involved in this incident," Sen. Graham said. "I made a tremendous error in judgment, and it won't happen again.  I have learned a valuable and life-altering lesson, and I know I will be a better person because of it.  I want to thank everyone who has supported me during this difficult time, and I look forward to continue representing the citizens of Boone and Randolph counties."

"This was just not a person pulled over, this was an individual involved in an accident who put other peoples' lives at risk because of his irresponsibility," said Paul Sloca Director of communications for Missouri Republican party."And despite the fact that he has plead guilty and admitted fault, obiviously, all is not forgiven. This is a very serious situation."

The arrest of State Senator Chuck Graham on drunk driving charges brought forth calls for resignation from some, and a plea for restraint from others.

Police say on Saturday October 21, Graham hit the rear end of a stopped car, which then hit the car in front of it. Police say Graham admitted he had a few drinks in the two hours before the accident, but refused to take a blood alcohol or breathalyzer test. Police say Graham's eyes were bloodshot his speech was slurred and he smelled of alcohol.
