COLUMBIA - About 50 people packed the Republican headquarters Tuesday night to watch the debate.

The mood was very supportive of John McCain. Before the debate volunteers called around mid-Missouri and asked voters to support their candidate.

The volunteers also put together signs and met with Senator Kit Bond, who stopped by the party. Supporters then gathered around the big screen and watched the candidates spar.

Many of the supporters said they wanted to hear their candidate win the debate on the economy.

"Whoever talks the best about the economy, because its the biggest concern right now with the American people, as it should be. McCain needs to hit it hard," said supporter Chelsea Maltagliati.

The next presidential debate is next Wednesday and election day is only 27 days away.
