COLUMBIA - Friends and fans of Ben Askren met in Columbia to see if a Tiger could pin his Olympic dreams.
Former Missouri wrestler Ben Askren looked a little different. But in his first match, he pulled off a familiar result.
The group cheered him on and watched him online at nbcolympics.com. Akren went against a Hungarian wrestler in his first round and won by pin.
Askren is not sporting his usual long curly locks. He got a haircut in China so his opponents couldn't grab his hair.
Chuck Crews organized tonight's event and says it's special for him to see Askren in the olympics.
"Ben's a neat guy," said Crews. "I've gotten to know him a little bit because of our sponsorship with the wrestling program and him getting his cair cut at our cost cutters. Yeah, he's a fun guy to be around and this is exciting watching him fulfill his dream and do something that we dream about ourselves."
More Askren results coming up later in sports. If he makes it to the medal rounds, it is scheduled to be on MSNBC between 4 and 10 a.m.
