COLUMBIA - The interim Boone County Fire Chief talks about the accident that flipped one of his trucks.

The accident happened when firefighter Samantha Lamp responded to a call. She lost control of the truck while looking at a map. The truck overturned on Route J, South of Harrisburg. Lamp suffered minor injuries.

The interim fire chief talked with KOMU-8 News about safety and training, something he says the department will reinforce after the accident.

"We will reiterate again what are our safe driving practices. We have a vehicle operations policy, and it's a very comprehensive policy. We have a vehicle training program, a vehicle operations training program," said interim Boone County Fire Chief Scott Olsen.

Firefighters also have individual training sessions at their respective stations. Each firefighter must spend a minimum of 10 hours training in each vehicle.

The firetruck is at Carl's Towing, waiting on word from the insurance company. The interim chief says the process the department goes through after a vehicle accident isn't that different from reporting a car accident.

If the firetruck has to be replaced it will cost between $200,000 and $400,000.

The department is using a reserve firetruck to replace the one that flipped. There are three reserve firetrucks.
