The five men, a father and his four sons, belong to the Mohler family. They were taken into custody outside Bates City, just east of Kansas City, but they live scattered throughout Missouri and Iowa. All are currently being held on bond in the Lafayette County jail.

Lafayette County Sheriff's Department initiated the multi-jurisdictional investigation and was assisted by more than 10 different jurisdictions. All five men had active warrants for sex crimes against children under the ages of 12 and 14.

Court records suggest charges date back to 1991,1995, and at least six of the counts date back to 1988.

Authorities believe 77 year old Burrell Edward Mohler, Sr. is the father of the four other suspects. 42 year old Jared Leroy Mohler lives in Columbia and faces four counts of child sex crimes.

Officials described neighbors as looking shocked as squad cars blocked off Mohler, Sr.'s home. Authorities searched the surrounding properties, but would not say what they were looking for and it's still not known what prompted the investigation.
