VIENNA - The recent flooding damaged hundreds of homes across Missouri.
State and federal emergency management officials are assessing the damage in 70 counties. The clean-up is far from over. Officials aren't the only ones assessing the damage. Many home owners and utility workers are doing a lot of dirty work this week.
You may call Barbara Bingaman one of the lucky ones. She sits high and dry in her home above the Gasconade River - not affected by the recent flooding which overturned vehicles and toppled trees and houses.
Utility workers joined home owners along the Gasconade River in assessing the damage. It looks like a tornado passed through one area instead. Personal belongings can be seen dangling from trees and pieces of a trailer were rapped around a tree. Rebuilding will be harder for some. According to Shelter Insurance, many in the area are without flood insurance.
"People believing they hey, it's never going to get this high as the river just got. It's never going to get this high, then why take it out," said Norm Schwartze, insurance agent.
Even though some home owners do have flood insurance, many may not receive money. One man has insurance, but won't be able to get any money because he owes his lender.
