COLUMBIA - Last week, 9th District Rep. Kenny Hulshof announced he will run for governor of Missouri. Monday, he made his plans official.
Rep. Hulshof (R) and his wife were welcomed by a round of applause from supporters.
"Beginning today, Renee and I are going to start to go across the state, and I'm going to introduce myself to folks," Hulshof said. "I'm going to talk to them about the values and principles that drive me everyday. I'm going to tell my story of the Missouri dream."
He made his announcement at the Columbia Regional Airport before getting on one of these planes behind me to go announce his decision to run to others. Members of the 9th District, like John Koffman, showed up to give their support.
"He is a great American and will do an excellent job as our governor," Koffman said.
Hulshof made the same announcement to run in 2002, but because of personal reasons decided not to.
When asked about it, he said, "I have no regrets. I do think this is our time now."
Hulshof will be running against Republican Lt. Governor Peter Kinder and State Treasurer Sarah Steelman. Steelman says one of the most important aspects in this race is being truthful.
"I think we need to make sure we have an open, honest, and transparent government that's working for the people," Steelman said.
From the race for the governor to the race for the White House, KOMU News will have complete team coverage of Super Tuesday from the polling places to the party headquarters Tuesday at five, six and ten.
