FAYETTE- In Fayette, many citizens are talking about the firing of three top ranking city officials.

The board let go Street Superintendent Edward Innes, Jr., Water Sewer Distribution Superintendent Dennis McMahan for harassment, and Utility Office Manager Wade Monckton for unsatisfactory performance and failure to follow directions from the city administrator.

City Administrator and Clerk Robin Overstreet is in charge of making recommendations to the board about hiring and firing decisions. Monckton said Overstreet failed to communicate with them.

"Then, when it comes to city employees needing direction in order to get their duties done in a timely manner, it's real hard to get direction when the Administrator and Clerk is readily not available," Monckton said.

"It probably was in the past but I've been making an effort to correct it, so I think that's something I need to deal with in the Board of Alderman," Overstreet said.

Some of the others in town agree with Monckton's view of Overstreet. They think this dispute is far from over.
