SUNRISE BEACH- Firefighters say lightening started a fire at a lake-area condo.

Lightening struck a two million dollar unit in the Summer Place Condominiums in Sunrise Beach.

Investigators say the fire started on either the top floor or attic of the unit and caused all four levels to completely collapse.

The Sunrise Beach Fire Department received a call about 6:30, Tuesday morning after neighbor Gerry Lagrotta called 9-1-1.

It took nine different agencies, Sunrise Beach, Mid-County, Lake Ozark, Osage Beach, Gravois, North West Fire, Rocky Mountain, Camdenton City and Versailles, nearly two hours to bring the fire under control. It took crews more than seven hours to completely put out the flames.

The condo-unit was vacant and no one was injured.

But it did leave some neighbors feeling shook up.

"It was tremendous. I guess the lightening hit it and the roof just went up into flames when we came out," Lagrotta said. "The fire was shooting up probably 20-30 feet above the roof, and from there it just went out of control."

Neighbors Phil and Vicki Lakamp live on the fourth floor in the unit next to the fire. They were both able to evacuate safely and return to their home the same day.

"I looked at it, and it looked like the sun was rising on the blinds," Phil Lakamp said. "And in the morning, that's kind of typical. Except, there was no sun. It was pouring down rain."
