JEFFERSON CITY - With only hours left in the legislative session, a feud brought the action to a sudden halt. Except this time, it's Republicans against Republicans.

The controversial "village law" has some calling for House Speaker Rod Jetton to give up his post.

The argument slowed down what is usually a busy week for the legislature.

Republicans aren't talking to reporters about it, but it is the topic of the day.

"I do know that the house caucus met last evening, but then they came out and Rod was still Speaker of the House," said Sen. Chuck Graham, (D) Columbia.

The village law went into effect August 28, 2007.

The way it works is like this: If you can have your land declared as a village, you can avoid county planning and zoning. If 15% of registered voters apply for a certain area of land to be declared a village, it has to be submitted to the voters. And, for people with large plots of land in missouri with big ideas, this is causing problems.Especially single owners, who would have 100% of that required vote.

Because the immigration laws were passed this morning, the village law is the main discussion now.

Graham said he didn't know if it would pass, but he doubted that there would really be any change in leadership
