COLUMBIA - Richard E. Wright has turned himself in after police identified him as the suspect involved with a handgun assault early Sunday morning.

According to victims, 49-year-old Wright assaulted a 24-year-old woman, then assaulted a 37-year-old man by striking him in the face with a handgun around 3:45 a.m. Sunday at the 1500 block of Citadel Drive in Columbia. Victims said Wright then pressed the muzzle of the handgun against the man's forehead.

When Columbia police officers arrived, victims said Wright took off running. But about four hours later, at approximately 7:30 a.m., Wright flagged down a Boone County Deputy near Brown School and said he was tired of running. The handgun used in the assault was not recovered.

Wright was being sought by Columbia Police for Third Degree Domestic Assault, Second Degree Assault, Armed Criminal Action, and for being a Felon in Possession of a Concealable Firearm as a result of this incident.

He was already wanted for failing to appear on a traffic charges and for probation violation.
