JEFFERSON CITY - The legislative session just now wrapped up Friday, and as expected, there was a lot to get done.
Legislators counted down the hours and called out bills on the last day of the legislative session and for some members, it's the end of their term.
"It's awe inspiring, it's humbling. Every time I walk in this chamber I try and remember what it was like the first time," Rep. Tim Jones said.
For some legislators Friday meant a lot more, because it was the end of a career.
"At the conclusion of today's session, I will be finishing up my 18th session of the Missouri general assembly," Rep. Tom Villa said.
Stacks of bills had to be decided on, many dealing with important issues.
"Well, I think some of the important issues from this session have been health care and immigration," Rep. Judy Baker said.
Many legislators see these bills doing good things for Missouri.
"We got the property tax reform done, which I think is a very good thing, and the immigration bill, which means we won't have to come back in special session, which is very good," Rep. Ed Robb said.
The legislative process is confusing, and it isn't always easy.
"I've only been here for one term, I've had two years to compare it. I think this year and last year are very different," Jones says.
Something about the process, even when it's hectic, can keep a member wanting to come back, because coming back means you get to do one very important thing.
"I thoroughly enjoy the process and I would probably seek re-election if I had the opportunity," Villa said.
Lawmakers said it was a long week and an especially long day. Many of them were at the capitol through the night Thursday until 1 a.m. Friday morning and then they had to come back bright and early to start the final day of the session.
