MILLERSBURG - A former football coach is now serving something up off the field.
New Bloomfield resident Ron Cole coached football at Jefferson City for about 20 years, and he still shows up for many of the home games, especially the big ones.
"The game against Rockhurst, gotta see that one," Cole said.
But now that he isn't spending tons of time on the field, he still finds ways to keep busy. He makes a living as a cattle rancher on his own farm in Callaway County. In April, he and a friend bought an old bar and grill on Route J in Millersburg.
They renamed the restaurant "Coach's Owl Creek Bar and Grill" because Cole coached for so many years. They sell regular drinks and appetizers, but the hamburgers and steaks are extra special - they come from Cole's own farm.
Cole said this means two good things for customers: one, that the food will be extra fresh and local, and two, that prices are low since they don't have to add additional fees for shipping or processing.
While some may come to the restaurant for the food, there are pool tables, games, a jukebox and lots of seating space so it can be a hang-out spot on late nights as well.
