PLATTE COUNTY - Governor Jay Nixon has announced the first suspected case of swine flu in the state of Missouri.

Nixon said a Platte County resident near Kansas City is suspected to have swine flu.

Health officials are releasing very little about the case. They did say the patient is being asked to stay at home for seven days so that symptoms can pass and the case will no longer be contagious.

The Centers for Disease Control will test the patient to see if the disease is indeed swine flu.  That testing usually takes about two days.

Nixon says the state's first shipment of swine flu medicine will go to Platte County.

Health officials are saying the probable case is a "concern," but not a cause for alarm.
