JEFFERSON CITY - On Monday, Union Pacific Railroad made getting food a lot easier for many mid-Missourians.

With holiday reminders all around, Union Pacific Railroad made the season brighter for the Central Missouri Food Bank.

"We're exceptionally blessed to be in partnership with so many people and Union Pacific is a wonderful partner and gave us the $10,000 check today that will allow us to acquire over 200,000 pounds of food," Peggy Kirkpatrick of the Central Missouri Food Bank said.

Officials said that the 200,000 pounds of food is enough to fill a box car. That's about 150,000 meals for families having a tough time keeping bellies full this holiday season.

"At this time of year, when more and more people are waking up hungry and worrying about where their food's going to come from, groups like the food bank really provide a vital lifeline to thousands of people here in Missouri," Bob Turner of Union Pacific said.

A lifeline that, Food Bank officials say, will keep their operations on track for the holidays.
