COLUMBIA - The smoke has cleared after months of fussing and fighting at the Boone County Fire District.
Tuesday the board named an interim chief, Scott Olsen, replacing former Chief Steve Paulsell. Olsen has been with the fire district 22 years. Before Tuesday he served as assistant chief. He was one of two candidates for the interim position.
Olsen says he's ready to make changes.
"I think the overall mood is hopeful, that we'll be able to move beyond this," Olsen said. "And I know there's a lot of excitement actually from a variety of different groups about moving forward and restoring the credibility of the fire district in the eyes of the citizens and the volunteers."
Olsen got a five percent raise with the new position. He'll be paid just over $100,000 a year. That's $70,000 less than Paulsell was being paid for the same job.
