COLUMBIA - Flu season starts next month and 1 of 3 main flu clinics will begin giving out vaccinations to Boone County residents beginning Tuesday.

The Boone County Health Department will host the first of three mass flu clinics Tuesday morning from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. According to the CDC, the single best way to prevent the flu is the flu vaccination. There are two types of vaccines, the flu shot and the nasal-spray flu vaccine.

The other two mass flu clinics are Wednesday, October 15th from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Monday, October 20th from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. The clinic will charge you a small fee for the vaccine.

Boone County Health Officials are not only offering the vaccine to prevent symptoms like runny or stuffy nose, muscle aches, fever and headaches, but also to prevent the hospitalizations and deaths that can also come with catching this virus. The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services reports that during the 2007 to 2008 flu season, over 2,500 deaths in Missouri involved flu and pneumonia.
