More than one out every five people in the United Sates has no prescription drug coverage. And a few prescriptions can add up every month.
The United Way is rolling out a new program to save everyone some money. In this day and age, we're all pretty skeptical of anything that's offered to us for free. But the next time you're picking up a prescription at your local pharmacy, double-check to see if you could be saving more by using the family wize card.
All you have to do is show the card, the numbers are the same on every card. The pharmacist will take it and run it through just like a prescription drug card and you get the discount. It doesn't matter if you have prescription coverage through insurance or if you have no insurance at all.
"It can offer a couple dollars off, I've seen up to 80 percent off depending on the medication," said Schnucks Pharmacy Manager Megan Henage.
Use your Family Wize card as often as you need, for any prescription, for everyone in your family. There is no income limit, age requirement, eligibility or registration required.
"There are no prequalifiers, you can find these cards at any of our partner agencies, you can find them at participating pharmacies. Anyone, I mean anyone, CEOs can use them right down to folks who can't put enough food on the table," said United Way spokesperson Tim Rich.
Basically the National United Way took the initiative to negotiate lower prescription rates for you, just like an insurance company would if you have one. Many pharmacies but corporately and locally owned in Columbia, Boonville, Moberly, Mexico, Fulton, Vandalia, Fayette, Glasgow and Jefferson City are taking part in the Family Wize discount program.
Just ask for a card the next time you need a prescription filled. All FDA approved brand and generic prescription medications are covered with the Family Wize card, the average savings is about 20 percent, or about nine dollars.
You can get a card at a participating pharmacy or online.
